Robotic Fabrication

The aim of the project is to design, compute, prototype, rationalise and construct a 4m x 4m x 3m pavilion over the course of 3 intense days and nights.

Fabrication and design evolved in tandem, as co-conspirators, seeking a highly optimized result while navigating a productively constrained space, in terms of structure, time and materials. 

The project ambition is to close the rift between design and fabrication while incorporating structural design aspects early on. The Surface/Volume workshop leverages the overlapping geometric constraints of hot-wire cutting (ruled surfaces) and sheet material (single curvature), as well as the combined potential of algorithmic design and robotic fabrication to open new formal possibilities via inherently constructible processes.
